We would like to briefly summarize the most important rules for boats and yachts in Croatian waters, especially as some regulations have changed for 2025. Please take care of following rules:
Up to 150 meters from the coast – max. 5 knots
150 – 300 meters from the coast – max. 8 knots
Special regulations apply to national parks, harbor entrances, and high-traffic areas. Please check the relevant websites or nautical charts for specific navigation rules.
Minimum distance from the coast for motorboats & sailing vessels: 50 meters
Distance from bathing beaches/swimming zones:
Yachts up to 15 meters – minimum 50 meters
Yachts 15 – 30 meters – minimum 100 meters
Yachts over 30 meters – minimum 300 meters
Minimum distance for jet-powered watercraft (e.g., jet skis) from the coast: 300 meters
Minimum distance from divers/diving buoys: 50 meters
Minimum distance from natural beaches: 150 meters
Entering channels/waterways: Keep right – Commercial vessels (ferries, fishing boats, etc.) always have the right of way.
Mooring on maritime safety installations (e.g., beacons or sea marks), technical structures, or other unauthorized objects is prohibited.
Anchor lines must be clearly marked.
Boats may not be moored more than 50 meters from the shore (shorelines).
Mooring with shorelines tied to trees is strictly prohibited.
Anchoring in buoy fields is generally prohibited. Exception: If there is imminent danger due to severe weather and no other option exists to protect the vessel and its occupants. In such cases, the buoy field operator is authorized to charge the standard fees for the vessel.
Minimum distance from buoy fields for anchoring: 150 meters.
When choosing an anchoring or mooring spot, the responsible person must ensure that no restricted zones are violated and that other anchored or moored vessels are not obstructed.
When navigating, docking, mooring, or anchoring, safety must always be the priority – avoiding danger to human life, preventing pollution, and preventing damage to one’s own or other vessels.
Anchoring directly over or within 150 meters of a submarine cable, pipeline, or other outflows is prohibited.
The local harbor authority may prohibit or restrict anchoring and mooring in specific areas based on vessel length or spatial-temporal traffic regulations.
The anchor light must be switched on from dusk onwards.
Our tender boats may be used without restrictions, as they have their own registration and insurance, if they are over 2.50 meters in length. Please be mindful of the maximum permitted number of passengers. Additionally, anyone operating a tender boat must hold a valid boating license.
